The Bahrain Smart Cities Conference 2026 concluded its ninth edition following two days of panel discussions and specialized sessions held on the 30th of June and the 1st of July 2026. The conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, and attracted more than 300 participants and visitors from government entities, the private sector, and academic institutions, alongside a distinguished group of experts, speakers, and decision-makers from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the GCC states, and a number of other countries. The conference addressed the latest trends in smart cities, digital transformation, sustainable urban development, and the strengthening of partnerships in support of building smarter and more sustainable cities.
Under the theme "City Insights: Where Sustainability, Innovation, and Smart Transformation Converge," this year's conference reflected Bahrain's commitment to advancing the integration of urban planning, sustainability, and digital transformation. It also served to strengthen collaboration among government entities, the private sector, and academic institutions by fostering knowledge exchange and showcasing practical experiences and innovative smart city solutions.
The conference brought together ministers and senior officials, along with extensive participation from Gulf and international delegations, enriching panel discussions, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and enabling the presentation of specialized projects and experiences across various smart city domains.
Discussions highlighted pioneering experiences in urban planning, smart housing, environmental sustainability, municipal services, financial technology, artificial intelligence, and traffic safety, underscoring the importance of Gulf cooperation, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of successful models to advance urban transformation across the region.
Sessions addressed a range of priority topics for the coming phase, including the development of digital housing services, AI applications in financial technology, smart solutions for city and utilities management, the future of institutions in the age of artificial intelligence, as well as initiatives in sustainability, urban planning, and traffic safety — reflecting the accelerating shift towards more sustainable and innovative development models.
The accompanying exhibition drew strong visitor turnout, with government institutions and national companies showcasing their latest projects, technologies, and innovative solutions, providing a platform to foster networking, explore cooperation opportunities, build cross-sector partnerships, and support Bahrain's innovation and smart transformation ecosystem.
The Smart Cities Conference affirms the importance of sustaining regional cooperation, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and drawing on best practices in the smart cities field — supporting sustainable urban development and the creation of cities that are more efficient, resilient, and future-ready.
The success of the ninth edition builds on the conference's journey since its inaugural edition in 2016, through which it has established itself as a leading specialized platform for showcasing the latest experiences and technologies in smart cities, sustainability, and digital transformation. Across successive editions, it has fostered dialogue between the public sector, the private sector, and academic institutions. It has also facilitated knowledge exchange and launched partnerships that support urban development and enhance quality of life — in alignment with Bahrain's approach to building smart and sustainable cities.
