Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Chairs GCC Committee Meeting on Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security
Under the Kingdom of Bahrain's chairmanship of the 46th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council, His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, presided over the meeting of the GCC Committee for Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security.
In his speech, the Minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, places great importance on reinforcing food security and supply chain sustainability through the development of national strategies, the diversification of import sources, and the expansion of strategic storage capacity — stemming from Bahrain's conviction that safeguarding food and essential commodities is both a national responsibility and a strategic investment for present and future generations.
The Minister further stressed the importance of cross-sector integration, underscoring the need to strengthen agricultural and food cooperation among GCC states as a foundation for developing a unified Gulf strategic storage system, in line with the directives of GCC leaders. He noted that this would enhance supply chain resilience, bolster readiness, and strengthen collective capacity to respond to changing circumstances through the pooling of capabilities and coordination of joint efforts.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments on the proposed joint Gulf system for the strategic storage of food, medicine, and essential goods, alongside other agenda items related to agricultural cooperation and food security.
